The Affordable Care Act requires that all health insurance plans provide breastfeeding support, counseling, and equipment for the duration of breastfeeding. This includes the cost of a breast pump. Depending on your health insurance plan, guidelines may vary on whether the covered pump can be manual or electric, whether you can buy or rent, and when you'll receive your pump (before or after birth). Yes, in order to get your insurance-covered breast pump, you will need a prescription from your OB/GYN. What does the prescription need to cover?

A diagnosis code (DX)
Your doctor's signature
The date the prescription was written

Either way, our team will keep you informed on the specific guidelines of your plan.
