But don\u2019t worry! With a little extra effort and time, your relationship after baby can be stronger than ever.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p><b>Why the trouble?<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Juggling the challenges that come with a new addition to your family can all put some strain on your relationship:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Financial discussions<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Lack of sleep<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Limited time for each other<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">New responsibilities<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>But most of the trouble comes from both parties being unaware of what the other one is going through. With a little extra attention, dad can feel more valued and appreciated during the period of adjustment.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>What can we do?<\/b><\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Find time to spend together.<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&nbsp;Carving out time each week to spend together is great for the health of your relationship. While time is hard to find with a newborn, time spent talking about your week, watching a favorite television show together or even sharing some conversation over takeout can be beneficial. It doesn\u2019t have to be a fancy date, just some time with the one you love.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Address finances early<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Getting the money talk out of the way before baby arrives is a great idea. This keeps the stress level to a minimum, and will make sure you\u2019re both on the same page with decisions. Will you be a SAHM? Will you go back after maternity leave? What will your monthly budget look like for your little one\u2019s arrival? Crossing all of these bridges early will be a huge stress-saver.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Make an effort to maintain intimacy<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Sex can be the <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">last<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> thing on your mind after having a baby, and <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">that\u2019s okay<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. But maintaining a sense of intimacy in other ways is great for your actual health and the health of your relationship. Even if it\u2019s just a much needed hug after a long day, staying affectionate with your partner is good for both of you.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Seek help if you need it<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. There are counseling services <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">just<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> for situations like this. Talk to your healthcare provider about your options &#8212; there\u2019s no shame in seeking some additional help, and it will be a great reminder that you\u2019re not the only ones that have been through this. &nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Feeling tension is perfectly normal and can be inevitable with new stress, lack of sleep and general overwhelm.
