It\u2019s true that when you become pregnant, suddenly everyone has an opinion. But did you know that this is a time-honored habit among society?Know-it-alls have always been around, we just know them as old wives’ tales. While typically untrue and completely unbacked by science, they can be a lot of fun to use to explain symptoms during pregnancy.<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

The way you\u2019re carrying.<\/b><\/h4>\n

One of the most popular old wives’ tales is that you can predict your baby’s gender just by the way you\u2019re carrying. If you\u2019re holding your little one up high in that bump, think pink. When carrying low, they say you can expect a boy.<\/span><\/p>\n

Heartburn<\/b>.<\/span><\/h4>\n

Another popular old wives\u2019 tale on pregnancy is that the amount of heartburn you have predicts the amount of hair your little one will have. The more heartburn, the hairier the baby!<\/span><\/p>\n

Cravings<\/b>.<\/span><\/h4>\n

Some myths claim that the things you\u2019re craving can also predict your upcoming little one\u2019s gender. If you\u2019re craving sweets like chocolate and other candies, you can get ready for a little girl. However, if you\u2019re leaning toward salty foods, or even those high in protein, you\u2019re growing a little boy.<\/span><\/p>\n

An even more ridiculous tale tied to cravings is that the food you crave will reappear on the baby as a birthmark. For example, eating a lot of watermelon would lead to a watermelon shaped birthmark!<\/span><\/p>\n

Baths.<\/b><\/h4>\n

A myth that is still prominent today is that pregnant women can\u2019t take baths. Some say it\u2019s because you\u2019ll drown the baby, others say it can get too hot for your growing little one. The second one is closest to true, but baths are generally pregnancy-safe as long as you turn down the heat. Any temperature up to your body\u2019s standard level (98.6) is typically safe for you and your little one. Nesting.<\/b><\/h4>\n

Many will tell you that once you begin nesting, the baby is about to make an appearance. But did you know that some mamas feel those nesting urges as early as the 1st trimester? Others don\u2019t even catch the nesting bug at all. When and if you start the nesting process, don\u2019t feel rushed.<\/span><\/p>\n

Heart Rate.<\/b><\/h4>\n

Another myth suggests your heart rate can predict the gender of the baby.  They say that heart rates faster than 140 beats per minute indicate that your growing bump is holding a girl. Slower than that, get ready for all things boy.<\/span><\/p>\n
